Tuesday 2 June marked a year since I joined Nottingham CityCare as CEO. It has been a hugely positive year — full of progress, partnership and purpose — and, like all meaningful work, not without its challenges.
I want to say a massive thank you to everyone across CityCare and to all the partners I’ve had the privilege to work with this year. Thank you for your honesty, your expertise, your welcome, and your willingness to work alongside us for the good of our communities.
Over the past year, we’ve built real strategic clarity as an organisation. We approved our organisational strategy — Driving Excellence in Neighbourhood Health — and developed three underpinning sub‑strategies across Clinical Quality, People, and Business Enabling. We now have a clear sense of direction, supported by robust business planning that is already turning strategy into action.
We’ve also focused on our long‑term financial sustainability as a Community Interest Company — essential in today’s health and care landscape, and essential if we are to continue standing firmly on our own two feet.
There have been many moments of pride this year:
• Launching the Nottingham CityCare Charity, with fundraising underway
• Publishing our Social Impact Report, evidencing the difference our services, volunteers and teams are making.
• Contributing to the national neighbourhood implementation programme and helping shape two integrated team pathfinders for our City Neighbourhoods
• Forming strategic partnerships with Nottingham University Hospitals and the Nottingham City GP Alliance to support the left shift of services and explore new models of delivery.
• Developing a powerful partnership with Thriving Nottingham, strengthening our role in prevention and community wellbeing.
• Expanding our footprint across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire through the award of the Care Navigation Service, and building relationships across the wider system.
• Strengthening our Board with the arrival of Vicky Bailey as Chair and new NEDs Lisa Kelly and Hugh Porter, whose experience across primary care and acute services is already enriching our work.
And more recently, I had the privilege of reading through the nominations for our upcoming Staff Awards. The stories are extraordinary. They show the impact our people are having both within CityCare and far beyond it. It’s a reminder that our greatest strength is, and always will be, our people.
There is still much more to do.
In year two, we will continue to build the culture we want to see, lead new models of care with our partners and communities, and shape our future digital offer through our developing digital strategy. The foundations are strong — and they are strong because of you.
Thank you to everyone who has supported, challenged, welcomed and worked with me this year. It has been a privilege to lead CityCare through this first chapter. I’m excited for what we will achieve together in the next.
