New Leaf service for hospital patients featured in the Nottingham Post

A new service being offered to hospital patients has featured in the Nottingham Post. The service, provided by CityCare’s New Leaf team offers help to stop smoking, including counselling and nicotine therapies, while patients are treated at the City Hospital.


Leading the way for student health visitors

After finding little support available for student health visitors, Leah Sweeney took the initiative and started developing an online community. Starting with a Facebook group in 2013, Student Health Visitors Advice has grown into a thriving support network.

High Sheriff of Nottinghamshire visits mindfulness patients

Patients with long term neurological conditions welcomed the High Sheriff of Nottinghamshire, Dr Jas Bilkhu, to the final session of CityCare’s pioneering mindfulness pilot. To celebrate the success of the programme the High Sheriff visited one of the sessions to congratulate the staff for all their work and to meet the patients who have benefited from the course.


New pioneering Cancer Community Support Service launches

People in Nottingham who have been affected by cancer can now access extended community support thanks to a new service due to be launched by Nottingham CityCare Partnership. From the 25th April 2016 this service has been available to people who are registered with a Nottingham City GP.

A new summer club as part of the ‘Nottingham Forest in the Community’ programme is looking help improve health through sport for children living in Nottingham city. The ‘Feel Good Club’ is being run in partnership with Nottingham Forest FC, Boots UK, the University of Nottingham and the City Council at the Forest Sports Zone.


#CommunityWorks at Emmanuel House

The #CommunityWords programme continued with a CityCare team visit to Emmanuel House, a drop-in facility for the local homeless community. It is situated in an art-deco building in Goosegate, with over 52 windows that are in urgent need of repair.


St Ann’s and Arboretum parents lead £1.8m investment in services for their children

5 May 2016

OVER £1.8m will be invested in St Ann’s and Arboretum to deliver an innovative new ‘Family Mentor’ service for babies and toddlers. The three year contract, drawn up in partnership with local parents, will create 25 new jobs including 18 Family Mentors - local mums, dads, granddads and grandmas who have learnt about how to support a baby’s development, from pregnancy through to three years old.

Stroke team receive large donation from patient

Grateful patient Chris Esswood presented £3,846.15 to the CityCare Stroke Discharge and Rehabilitation team on behalf of the Trident Masonic Lodge - of which he is a member. The Stroke Discharge and Rehabilitation team has been supporting Mr Esswood ever since he was discharged from hospital after experiencing a stroke earlier last year.


The CHC team – helping people to leave hospital with the care they need

Lilian Wiles is a Continuing Care Nurse Coordinator working in City Hospital, part of the City Care County Continuing Health Care (CHC) team. She works alongside colleagues at QMC and in the community to support patients throughout the county. The CHC team work closely with social and community services, patients, families and carer teams to develop care packages for individuals with ongoing health care needs.


CityCare takes a stand to support Falls Awareness event

The CityCare Falls and Bone Health Service provided free advice and support about how to prevent falls in and around the home at an event in the Market Square on Wednesday June 8th. Visitors were able to talk to a range of stall holders about the services available to prevent falls and support older people.

Nottingham mums are invited to share their questions and experiences of breastfeeding on a new Facebook group launched by community health service provider Nottingham CityCare Partnership. Designed to support mums and promote available services, the ‘CityCare Baby Feeding’ page is already gaining interest from mums across the city.
