We currently have 23 apprentices working in a variety of roles throughout CityCare, and over the course of this week we will be spotlighting staff who have had experiences in apprenticeships with us.

One of our Strategic Aims at CityCare is to continue to develop the skills and capabilities of our workforce, through professional and personal learnings, leadership and managerial training, and apprenticeship programmes. At CityCare, we believe investing in apprenticeships is key in developing our workforce, as well as encouraging people to develop their careers with us.

Many staff within Nottingham CityCare are on a career journey with us. However, they may worry that furthering their education through a university course, for example, will take them out of the workplace for a while, reduce their income or even land them in debt.

Emma Cross, Apprenticeships and Career Engagement Manager explained: “Lots of people currently working think wrongly they will need to drop down to apprentice wage if they take this opportunity, but that’s simply not the case. They will actually be able to complete the apprenticeship alongside their job on their current salary, as long as it’s relevant to their role. This will help them with upskilling, and they will receive a minimum of six hours a week off the job learning.

“For existing staff, gaps can come up in appraisals where an apprenticeship could help them progress. These careers conversations can be used to highlight the opportunities. We’re also raising awareness by discussing apprenticeships with new starters in their inductions.”

More information on how staff and managers can make applications for apprentice roles is available on the Nottingham CityCare  intranet, or Emma can be contacted at emma.cross15@nhs.net
