On Thursday 16 October 2025, Nottingham CityCare’s Ethnic Equality Staff Network hosted an event to celebrate the organization’s diversity.
This inspiring occasion, part of Black History Month celebrations, brought together staff from across the organization. Colleagues filled the space at Aspect House with energy and a true sense of belonging as they gathered and embodied the theme of “Belonging, Power, and Pride.”
The day featured an engaging programme of activities, including thought-provoking talks, personal stories, and interactive sessions. Attendees were welcomed by Sherry Malik, Chair of the CityCare Board , followed by a message from Chief Executive Nic Atkinson and words from our Executive Sponsor Namdi Ngoka.
Presentations were given about the impact of menopause in diverse communities, a moving account of dementia from a family perspective and an inspiring talk about “the leader within you”.
Janet Ansah, Deputy Chair, shared her mum’s personal journey and how she overcame numerous challenges to become the first female Vice President of Malawi.
We would like to thank Janet Ansah, Carolin Tomlinson, Erica Pearce, Erica Sparkes, Sandra Johal and Eunice Chihuri for their contributions, ensuring the event was a success.
Feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive, with many welcoming the opportunity to connect, learn, and contribute to CityCare’s journey toward greater inclusion:
“It highlighted how far CityCare has come with inclusion and placing BAME workers into key roles to affect change and challenge stereotypes.”
“I enjoyed the personal stories from speakers.”
“It will empower me to find power in my voice.”
"I am grateful for working in a diverse organisation where I feel accepted and cared for."
