University of Nottingham Student Nurses Shine a Spotlight on Exceptional STARs.
Nottingham CityCare’s Practice Supervisors and Assessors have been honoured in a truly special way, following heartfelt nominations from student nurses at the University of Nottingham. These accolades celebrate the outstanding commitment and support that the CityCare staff have shown to student nurses throughout their clinical placements, shining a light on the vital role that experienced clinicians play in shaping the next generation of nursing professionals.
On 2nd July, Ro Revell, Practice Lead at the University of Nottingham, visited CityCare to personally present these prestigious new awards, known as the ‘STAR’ awards. The occasion marked a significant moment, not just for the recipients, but for the wider community, as it recognised the invaluable and often unseen work that supervisors and assessors undertake in guiding, nurturing, and inspiring student nurses.
Judith Douglas, Director of Nursing, AHPs and Quality at Nottingham CityCare, reflected on the event with pride:
"I was delighted to hear the testimonies of students that had nominated Clinicians who had provided a rich and meaningful placement for them. The students reflected on their experiences and the impact of this on their nursing careers. These are new awards recognising the contribution and value that students have placed on their supervisors. I want to congratulate the winners and acknowledge the commitment and passion that they bring to the learning experiences of students."
The nominations were filled with stories of exceptional teaching, compassionate guidance, and practical support, helping student nurses not only develop their clinical skills but also find confidence in their abilities and purpose within the profession. Many students spoke eloquently about how their supervisors and assessors had created positive, inclusive learning environments, encouraged critical thinking, and fostered the professional values that will inform their practice for years to come.
These new awards serve as an important recognition of the deep impact that effective supervision and assessment have on the quality of placement experiences. For the supervisors and assessors at CityCare, this acknowledgment is a testament to their dedication to education and their unwavering belief in the potential of every student.
This recognition aligns with Nottingham CityCare’s ongoing commitment to high-quality practice learning. Resources such as the Practice Supervisor and Practice Assessor for Pre Reg Nursing Students V1.0 and Practice Supervisor and Assessor Handbook 0-19 Nursing Service outline the organisation’s standards for creating supportive, evidence-based learning environments. These documents emphasise the importance of role modelling, structured supervision, and ensuring students are equipped with the tools and confidence to thrive in clinical settings
As the ceremony drew to a close, the sense of shared achievement and pride was clear. The University of Nottingham and Nottingham CityCare together continue to build a supportive community for student nurses – one where learning is rich, meaningful, and transformative, thanks to the commitment of those who guide and inspire along the way.
Congratulations to all the nominees and award recipients, whose passion and dedication illuminate the path for future generations of compassionate, skilled healthcare professionals.
