This week, Nottingham CityCare Partnership proudly joins the global celebration of World Breastfeeding Week 2025 (1 - 7 August), an annual initiative led by the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF to highlight the vital role of breastfeeding in building healthier communities and a more equitable world.
This year’s theme is “Prioritise Breastfeeding: Create Sustainable Support Systems” – a call to action to build lasting, equitable support for breastfeeding mothers everywhere. To celebrate the week Nottingham CityCare is hosting six breastfeeding support groups across six of our sites that are open to all breastfeeding parents in Nottingham.
Nottingham CityCare’s Children’s 0-19 Service provide breastfeeding support to all people who wish to breastfeed after giving birth through our Nutrition and Breastfeeding Peer Support Workers. In addition to the nine regular breastfeeding support sessions (available here) the service provides, they have arranged additional breastfeeding support groups to celebrate World Breastfeeding Week 2025 to take place this week:
- Friday 1 August, 1pm - Wollaton Vale Health Centre
- Tuesday 5 August, 10am - Broxtowe Family Hub
- Tuesday 5 August, 1pm - Bestwood Park Health Centre
- Wednesday 6 August, 10am - Mary Potter Health Centre
- Wednesday 6 August, 10am - The Meadows Health Centre
- Thursday 7 August, 1pm - Bulwell Riverside Health Centre
Breastfeeding provides essential nutrients, strengthens the immune system of the child, and fosters a strong bond between mother or parent and child. Despite these benefits, many people who have given birth face challenges that hinder breastfeeding, such as lack of support, misinformation, and societal pressures. World Breastfeeding Week highlights these issues and promotes actions to overcome them, while CityCare’s Nutrition and Breastfeeding Peer Support Workers provides essential support for the Nottingham community in overcoming these same issues.
