Every year on 1 December, people across the globe come together for World AIDS Day; a moment to raise awareness about HIV, remember those we’ve lost, and show support for people living with HIV today. It’s a day that reminds us how far we’ve come, thanks to decades of activism, research, and community support, but also how much there is still left to do.
This year, Shaun Bratchley -Clark, Community Specialist Cardiac Physiotherapist at Nottingham CityCare, wanted to share something personal. In 2026, Shaun will be running the London Marathon in support of the Terrence Higgins Trust, the UK’s leading HIV and sexual health charity. Their work has transformed countless lives, and he is proud to be supporting their mission.
Why Terrence Higgins Trust?
Terrence Higgins Trust (THT) is dedicated to improving the nation’s sexual health and supporting people living with HIV through:
-
Free, confidential advice and counselling HIV testing, prevention, and education services
-
Advocacy and policy work to challenge stigma and improve healthcare access
-
Support programs that help people with HIV live healthy, fulfilling lives.
THT is also working towards a bold and inspiring goal: to end new cases of HIV in the UK by 2030! It’s an achievable target if awareness, prevention, testing and support continue to grow.
What Shaun is Doing
Training for the London Marathon is both daunting and exciting but knowing that every mile will support the vital work of Terrence Higgins Trust makes the journey truly meaningful. Shaun's goal is not only to raise funds, but also to spark conversations that help break stigma and keep awareness alive long after World AIDS Day has passed.
How You Can Help
You can support this cause through a donation, wearing a ribbon for world aids day, sharing my fundraising page, or simply taking a moment to learn more about HIV and what THT does. Every contribution, no matter the size, helps make a real difference.
